  • Size "L": Rooms over 20 m²

Unboxing SALSAMED salt cup

1. Preparation and setup

Place the SALSAMED ceramic salt humidifier on the ceramic drip tray included in the box.

Please handle the container carefully: the fine salt flowers inside are sensitive and increase the intensity of salt evaporation.

If salt flowers are damaged or broken, it's not a problem - they will reform within a few days and the crust will strengthen over time.

2. Add salt and prepare the solution

Fill the bowl about ¾ full of the salt supply provided (2 to 5 x 1000 g depending on the size) – leave some space at the top.

Then pour 150 ml of water over the salt and let it partially dissolve.

Add more salt (do not fill completely, keep the rest as refill salt) and add another 100 - 200 ml of water.

Stir the solution with a spoon to a depth of about 4–5 cm . It's sufficient if the surface is damp. The salt shouldn't dissolve completely!

3. Commissioning and maintenance

Place the SALSAMED salt cup in its final location, ideally in an airy and protected place .

Make sure the salt in the cup always remains slightly moist. If the surface becomes hard or dry , add a little more water .

If the salt level in the cup drops, refill with the salt provided.

If the drip tray fills too quickly, use a little less water next time. Clean the drip tray regularly to prevent the salt from damaging the glaze.

Dry surface?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How often do I need to refill the water?

This depends on your room's climate. Generally, adding a small amount of water (approx. 100–200 ml) every 1–3 days is sufficient. If the surface appears very hard and dry, the chalice will benefit from a little water.

Water is leaking into the drip tray – is the chalice leaking?

No, don't worry. That's almost always a sign of overwatering. Simply empty the tray and use a little less water next time.

May I dissolve the salt completely?

Please don't. The chalice is not a pot for salt water. The salt should only be moistened so that it can take effect.

How long does a salt filling last?

Depending on usage, this will last you several months. We include a supply with each chalice that typically lasts for about 6 months .

The salt crust turns slightly yellow or green – is that normal?

This is perfectly normal, especially if the chalice is new. The salt attracts particles from the air, which can cause discoloration. If it bothers you visually, simply crumble off the affected areas with your fingers. The crust will grow back cleanly. Over time, this will even out and the effect will disappear.

Do I need to remove the salt crust regularly?

No. The crust is alive and constantly changing. If a piece falls off, you can simply put it back on top.

How thick can the salt crust be?

There's no limit. Whether you prefer a thin layer or a proper crust is purely a matter of taste – functionally it makes no difference.

What happens when the salt dries out completely?

No problem. Simply add small amounts of water again (approx. 100 ml), stir gently, and be patient for a day or two until the moisture is redistributed.

Can I place the chalice on the floor?

Yes, absolutely. The salt doesn't care at what height it operates. The only important thing is a stable and secure base.

Where should the chalice be placed in the bedroom?

It's entirely up to you: at the foot of the bed, to the side, or behind it. As long as the surface is stable, any location will work.

Is the chalice suitable for babies, pregnant women, or pets?

We are not medical professionals and therefore do not offer any official recommendations. However, we have not received any negative feedback so far and use the chalices ourselves within our families. If in doubt, please consult your doctor.

Will the chalice damage my furniture or electronics?

No. It does not produce an aggressive salt spray like in a large cave. We are not aware of any damage to furniture or appliances.

Can mold form?

No. Salt is a natural enemy of mold. As long as you don't leave standing water in the chalice, you're on the safe side.

Why is the top of the chalice unglazed?

This is intentional: the salt can only diffuse outwards through the open-pored ceramic. The glaze on the bottom serves only as protection.

How much humidity does the chalice need?

It works in normal indoor climates. The drier the room, the more frequently you should top up with a small amount of water.

Is the chalice comparable to a salt nebulizer?

No. It works without electricity or technology, in a purely natural way. Many appreciate it precisely for this reason as a maintenance-free design object.

Why does it currently take up to 8 days to get a response from customer service?

We are a genuine Bavarian family business. Every email is read by hand and answered personally. This sometimes takes a little longer, but it's honest and heartfelt – we promise!

My chalice arrived damaged – what now?

Please send us a photo and your order number via the complaint form on our contact page . If the goblet is broken, we will refund the price and you can simply reorder. If only the saucer is damaged, we will send you a free replacement.

Why does my chalice have small irregularities in the material?

Because we don't sell mass-produced goods from China. Each chalice is handcrafted in a workshop. Therefore, slight variations may occur. However, we are very accommodating: If something bothers you, simply contact us via the contact form on our contact page and we will find a solution.
